ARTIST STATEMENT:
My sculpture reflects
an interest in the structures and patterns of nature which we frequently overlook.
These
patterns are
often the language of life and growth.
Through the aesthetics of bronze sculpture,
fleeting or otherwise overlooked patterns are revealed. We then pause and see
these textures and forms in memorable
ways. We might then see similar patterns elsewhere in nature, such as in our
own finger prints, or in the patterns left in sand at low tide, or in the heaving
earth after a frost. I find a beauty in these traces of time and nature.
My animal and human figure sculpture strives
to capture the essence and the individual spirit of my subject. The work is really
a kind of portraiture. Each piece is
done from life.
The spirit and identity which I strive to
capture in figure and animal sculpture has also become manifest in my more abstract
nature sculpture.
Once in place, this permanent work assumes
a subtle role. My goal is to enhance an existing space and raise the viewers
awareness in order to create a sense
of place. The work invites the viewer to approach and touch.
